President Jacob Zuma wants to create a new propaganda ministry to help clean up his image, according to a news report.
The Mail & Guardian reported that Zuma wants to create the ministry as he is unhappy with how he has been portrayed during his five years in office. The ministry will be based on the model that the Zimbabwean, Chinese and Russian government departments use. Presidency spokesperson, Mac Maharaj, will reportedly head up the new ministry.
Maharaj, though, has denied any knowledge of the new ministry but the Mail & Guardian's source said that plans for the ministry were at an advanced stage. South Africa last had an information ministry during the apartheid era.
The Mail & Guardian also said that the ANC was mulling setting up new ministries in the new administration and that President Zuma wanted to reintroduce the position of a second deputy president.
