Description:
Uviwe is a registered CHILD PROTECTION ORGANISATION. Our focus remains the “best interest of the child” and our work includes both pro-active (preventative) as well as reactive (treatment) interventions. We predominantly work with child victims of rape, abuse (sexual & physical), severe neglect and abandonment. We have a strong education focus as we run 6 ECD centres (crèches) and a career focussed girl-child-project. We believe education is one of the most effective tools to stop the cycle of abuse.
Project 1:
Child protection programmes - programmes include positive parenting, effective discipline and family counselling. Children who are not safe to remain in the care of their primary caregivers (parents) may be removed and placed in foster homes or children's homes. Ongoing services are rendered to such children to unlock their full potential.
Project 2:
Early Childhood Development - our 6 crèches focus on all the elements of a holistic early childhood development programme, i.e. 490 pre-school children from the Northern Areas (gangster communities) receive health assessments, nutritional support, educational stimulation and cognitive/social development, family (social service) support and are prepared for school. Uviwe's "Caring for Crèches" programme is a capacity building programme for community based unregistered/"backyard" crèches.
Project 3:
Youth programmes - Uviwe's youth programmes has a strong education and life skills (leadership development) focus. Our programmes include: Teen Mom enrichment group, ZILP (Zakhe Independent Living Programme), Backpackers programme (equipping youth for the journey of adult life), career focused girl-child-project.
