United Through Sport (2022)

United Through Sport is a registered PBO founded in 2007 with the mission to use sport as a tool to develop children and youth in Nelson Mandela Bay. United Through Sport is focused on social changes, contributing to sustainable development and the ultimate success of its participants.

Throughout United Through Sport’s years of experience in the sport for development space, they have created a holistic model that assists participants through their pathway to success, uplifting them and their communities. United Through Sport encourages sustainable peer-led social change among youth by using sport to leverage peer influence to increase life skills, education and practical skills.

United Through Sport’s success is demonstrated by the youth who enter the programme at age 5 and are now either employed or are studying in tertiary institutions as a direct result of the organisation’s support. The participants are able to use the tools provided as a means to uplift themselves, ultimately contributing to sustainable development in South Africa.

Current Projects:

In March 2021, United Through Sport built a 5-a-side football field at the Callies Football Club in Sunridge that is aimed at providing a state of the art AstroTurf field for over 500 participants to enjoy coaching and matches.  The wonderful advantage of the turf is that it has two main benefits:

We use the turf to run part of our programmes on, giving children from disadvantaged communities exposure to playing on high-quality facilities, and receiving better access to coaching.

We are able to use the turf to generate income for our programmes by running leagues and tournaments for people who are able to pay to use the facilities.

Since the construction of the turf, we have also been able to create 6 sustainable jobs for previously unemployed youth who now work at the turf, as well as ensuring that all the profits from the facilities, goes back into United Through Sport, enabling us to run more sport for development programmes in the Nelson Mandela Bay area.

We have a goal to build a second 5-a-side football turf within the first quarter of 2022, adding a second football turf will double our outreach, as well as double the number of previously unemployed youth that we can employ.

A list of our needs:

We are currently selling our billboard spaces to the public and corporate companies.  The field has major foot traffic due to our five-a-side league created as an income generator;  hosted in the evenings, and this is a great marketing opportunity for companies who would not only like to advertise their businesses but also give back to the community.  We would love for businesses of the Nelson Mandela Bay to purchase a billboard to help us raise funding for building the second turf.

Watch this short clip and see how you can help us achieve our goal! We would be so grateful.
