The Rotary Clubs of Port Elizabeth, PE South, and PE West are joining forces once again for this amazing initiative.
The Tree of Joy is an initiative that aims to provide a Christmas gift to those in GQ who would otherwise not receive one.
The project started over 30 years ago in Cape Town and moved to the Eastern Cape about 16 years ago. The project is run by 3 Rotary Clubs in GQ and this year they will be supporting 32 different charities in need.
The Tree of Joy will be situated in the forecourt in front of Edgar's at Greenacres Shopping Centre.
The Tree will be operational from the 1 Dec to the 19 December with gifts being handed over to the participating charities on the 22nd of December. There are approximately 2,500 gifts needed.
Gifts needed range in price from R100 to R150 and cover pensioners to tiny babies (youngest a few months, oldest 103 years old)
We would like to encourage people not to spend huge amounts on one gift bearing in mind these gifts are handed out in front of other residents, but rather buy for more people to share the Christmas cheer
We have already had donations of gifts promised from corporates and private individuals - more are welcome! Spread the word please!.
We are happy for cash donations and we will do the shopping for donations of toiletries and stationery i.e pens, pencils, crayons, rulers etc.
This year we have had requests for science calculators and school backpacks.
Please go to treeofjoype.co.za to find out how you can make an online donation or purchase a gift package on behalf of a needy person.
