The Rotary Clubs of Port Elizabeth, PE South, and PE West are joining forces once again for this amazing initiative.
The Tree of Joy is an initiative that aims to provide a Christmas gift to those in Port Elizabeth who otherwise would not receive one.
The project started 30 years ago in Cape Town and moved to the Eastern Cape about 15 years ago. The project is run by 3 Rotary Clubs in Port Elizabeth who in turn liaise with approximately 60 charities to assist with finding almost 2200 gifts for those who are either destitute, handicapped, or in places of safety.
The Tree itself is stationed at Greenacres Shopping Centre in Port Elizabeth.
The Tree will start at Greenacres on Tuesday, the 29th of November. The last day for gifts to be handed in is the 20th of December. Gifts will be delivered to the beneficiaries on 22/23 December.
Members of the public can help by sponsoring the gift on any card/cards. They can either do this by purchasing and wrapping the gift themselves and returning it to the Tree or making a pledge online to purchase one or more of the 2200 gifts that will need to be found for those in need or making a simple donation.
The biggest need at the moment is for toiletry packs and school/stationary packs.
Please go to treeofjoype.co.za to find out how you can make an online donation or purchase a gift package on behalf of a needy person.
