THE SOUTHERN CAPE FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION PROMOTES INTEGRATED FIRE MANAGEMENT
Catastrophic fires cannot be prevented solely through effective firefighting practices; fire-prone areas must be managed using scientific principles. Integrated Fire Management takes into account the needs of all stakeholders, enhancing cooperation and resource sharing.
Key benefits of IFM include:
We are currently working on a campaign to raise awareness about the importance of obtaining burn permits and adhering to local regulations regarding open-air burning.
The burn permit system is crucial for preventing uncontrolled fires, protecting property, and the environment, and ensuring public safety. Unfortunately, many landowners are still unaware of the necessary steps to obtain a permit or the legal implications of non-compliance. By broadcasting information about the burn permit system, we can help ensure that our community members are well-informed and adhere to safe burning practices. Overall, a burn permit process and its guidelines play a crucial role in managing fire risk, preventing runaway wildfires, and minimizing the damage they cause to both people and the environment.
The vision of the SCFPA is to promote IFM in the SCFPA region to minimize losses to social, economic, and ecological assets. This is achieved through the successful implementation of strategies focused on awareness, fire protection, prevention, and support during suppression.
