The Exceptional Nurse Campaign

Welcome to the 7km night run to honour nurses - proudly brought to you by the Exceptional Nurse Campaign.

This family-friendly event is open to EVERYONE, not only nurses, and is a fundraiser for exceptional nurse bursaries.

 

 DID YOU KNOW?

There is a critical shortage of professional and specialist nurses, not only in South Africa, but all over the world. Nurses are being stretched far beyond reasonable limits.

48 million people in South Africa are totally dependent upon the National Department of Health for the healthcare services provided through 351 Public Hospitals and approximately 3000 Community Clinics.

There is an estimated shortage of over 30,000 professional and specialist nurses currently employed in the Government Sector. (The patient/nurse ratio: 25 > 1. That is 25 patients to be cared for by 1 nurse.)

In South Africa, only 8.9 million people (15% of the population) have access to private healthcare as members of Medical Aid Schemes. (Patient/nurse ratio in the Private Sector 6 > 1).
