The ECHO Foundation was founded in 1991. The Foundation operates in the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipality of Port Elizabeth, a coastal city, situated in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. The city is home to some 1.5 million people. The Foundation houses over 1,500 residents within its ten villages, assisted living and frail care facilities.
We provide housing and frail care to senior citizens. Our mission is to be a self-sustaining provider of acceptable, secure and cost-effective housing, institutional care and community services to senior citizens of all races and religious affiliations. Our vision is to be a leader in the provision of accommodation and institutional care to senior citizens. We also ensure that respect and dignity prevails at all times when interacting with colleagues, residents and residents families. Our work environment encompasses participation, mentoring, ownership, integrity and ideas that will form the basis for continued improvements to care, processes and procedures.
Our current project is called KNITTING FOR LOVE.
ECHO Foundation residents are knitting beanies for the staff who work in COVID-19 units in local hospitals.
We would love it if folk could donate wool for our residents to continue with this project.
