The Community Conservation Fund – Africa NPC (CCFA) is a registered non-profit company borne out of the merger between Mantis and Accor to address the urgent need for community development to benefit Africa’s wild animals and wilderness areas. CCFA works at the intersection between conservation, ecotourism, and community as both a fundraising and grant-giving organization, active in educating and empowering local communities in conservation areas.
Our goal is to create a conservation legacy through projects that protect the environment and wildlife by creating sustainable partnerships with communities. Therefore, as the official foundation of Mantis, we see CCFA as an executing mechanism that strives to ensure that communities participate in and benefit from conservation. Guests who visit Mantis curated hotels, eco-lodges and waterways play an important role in supporting conservation-led travel and hospitality. It’s about curated destinations, inspired by sustainable adventures.
One of our most important projects is the preservation and protection of Rhino. It is to this end that we have engaged with various stakeholders to raise funds for this worthy cause. We hope that Algoa Country will get behind us!
Join us as we go all out to break TWO new Guinness World Records all in aid of our RHINOS!
A mixed team of 12 rowers, 6 Grey High School boys, and 6 ladies, AND a mixed team of 9 rowers, ALL OVER the age of 60, will attempt not one but TWO new Guinness World Records for indoor distances rowed on Friday and Saturday 4 & 5 August.
We will use 9 x Concept II indoor rowing machines for this attempt. Each participant will row for 30 minutes and rest for 30 minutes while the other team member rows. This will continue for 24 hours and the total distance rowed by all 21 rowers will count towards the Guinness World Records. We are doing this to raise funds and awareness for rhino conservation as our Eastern Cape rhinos are under attack and we believe it is not only our duty, but our privilege to help save a species.
Rhinos are what we refer to as a keystone species – this is a species that helps define an entire ecosystem. Without the keystone species, the ecosystem would be dramatically different or cease to exist altogether. We further believe that rhinos are not only essential in the natural environment but also in the economic environment as they are a huge driver of international tourists into South Africa.
We the Community Conservation Fund Africa (CCFA) are the beneficiary and all funds raised will go towards the Rhino Legacy Project at Nyosi Wildlife Reserve, a peri-urban reserve just outside Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
