Algoa Cares October 26th : St Francis Hospice
On the first of October St Francis Hospice celebrated 30 years of having provided vital and palliative care and support to many thousands of patients and their respective families in the Nelson Mandela Metro and surrounds, including the Kouga area.
The care continues to go out to those nearing the end of an illness such as cancer, HIV and aids, Motor Neurone Disease or MDR/XDR TB. Hospice care is available to all who need it irrespective of their ability to pay. Sadly, the overwhelming majority of their patients come from the most dire of circumstances.
Funding of St Francis Hospice continues to be the biggest on going challenge. 2015 was an incredibly tough year, with staff having to be retrenched and patient numbers having to be reduced as the financial constraints became too great.
They remain an HPCA 5 Star Mentor Hospice with a training arm, the Leslie Ann Centre of Palliative learning. They operate three charity shops and organize many sponsored events. They also have a Hospice Hero Programme, aimed at encouraging regular monthly contributions.
Should you wish to make a donation to this NPO you will find their banking details below,as well as their contact details.
Their specific needs list is :
Financial assistance to pay salaries and increasing overheads
