St Bernard's Hospice East London

Kaycee catches up with Pamala Rala :

Serving the East London Community for over 27 years, we provide Home Based Palliative Care and Support for adults and children diagnosed with life-threatening or life-limiting illnesses such as Cancer, Motor Neuron Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, Drug Resistant Tuberculosis, Susceptible Tuberculosis, HIV and AIDS.

Our Qualified Nurses and trained carers also offer emotional support and counselling, extending into their families' bereavement period.

We are a proud beneficiary of this year’s Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer presented by ISUZU Motors South Africa.

Please go to www.algoafm.co.za and click on Big Walk to enter. In East London, the walk begins on Saturday 26 October at the Phillip Kahts Stadium, Gleneagles Lower Road, Bunkers Hill at 8 am.

Pamala Rala, pictured below, will be carrying the St Bernard's banner high when she joins thousands of other supporters on Saturday 26 October.

Our Hospice Philosophy :

Palliative Care works hand-in-hand with curative treatment and is not always only associated with end-of-life

  • Hospice is a philosophy, more than a place and neither hastens nor postpones death, but rather strives to maintain quality of life up until the end
  • It is characterised by concern for symptom control, relief of pain, promotion of general well-being and spiritual comfort for the dying
  • The patient and family/primary caregiver are our focus, with the emphasis placed on the well-being of the patient and family caregivers
  • Hospice recognises grief as a normal response to loss and provides support to the families during this time
  • St Bernard’s Hospice affirms life and regards dying as a normal process
