Algoa Cares June 22nd : The King Williams Town and District SPCA
The KWT SPCA is an NGO which renders vital services to King Williams Town and the surrounding areas. Unfortunately they are battling to survive. 
Their daily mission is to prevent cruelty and the ill treatment of animals at the hands of man. They also work tirelessly to prevent the wanton and improper treatment of animals. Their aim is to educate wherever possible, to encourage kindness,compassion and consideration towards all animals. Through their Junior Movement programmes, they hope to teach youngsters how to take care of and treat animals well. In addition to this they work to maintain and protect animal and bird life in their natural habitats. Everyday they alleviate the suffering of many animals. Sterilisation is an essential part of the service that they offer so as to keep the dog population down. As with any other shelter, they are over run with strays and even folk dumping their dogs or surrendering them because they cannot afford to take care of them anymore.
Unfortunately, they now find themselves in a position where dire financial straits threatens their very existence. They are facing the very real possibility of closure. They now cannot afford to render services such as picking up dogs in the street and taking them into their care. Doing so incurs both costs and staff time. Sadly, the municipality is not compensating the municipalities for this work.

Finance to pay off their medication bill which is at R149000 at the moment
Cleaning material like Jik, HTH, hand soap, thick jik, domestos,dishwashing liquid, dish cloths, mops, brooms, buckets
Dog food and cat food (tinned and dry)
Blankets & Stainless steel bowls of various sizes
Toys for the cats and dogs (balls etc which are used for environmental enrichment), soccer balls for environmental enrichment for cattle and pigs and horses
Cat litter
Stationery - Photo copy paper, pens, pencils, files, exam pads
Dog and Cat shampoo
Collars and leads
Black bin bags
Green garden refiuse bags
Scrubbing brushes
Electric leads, screwdrivers and other tools
Hosepipes and fittings
Garden tools such as spades, garden forks etc
Cat litter trays
Towels ? we use these in the hospital and grooming parlour
Toilet paper
