SOS Children's Village Port Elizabeth

 SOS Children’s Village Port Elizabeth provides an alternative setting for children who have been orphaned or whose parents are no longer able to take care of them. SOS Children’s Village PE supports more than 100 children in quality alternative, family-based care settings and hundreds more in their families of origin. Nationally we operate in 8 provinces reaching more than 5 000 children and young people.

Our top three projects currently include

  • SOS Children’s Village Port Elizabeth – Alternative Family-based Care for children that have lost parental care – 120 children

  • SOS Family Strengthening Programme – Support to families with children facing significant risk of losing parental care. (Food security, material support, education support, transport, income-generating activities, support and educational groups, identification and respite care for children in orphan headed households.) more than 250 families

  • YouthCan! – Youth skills development for employability, resilience in the world of work, job shadowing, internships and employment opportunities for young people.

If you are interested in volunteering or donating goods, below is a list of our most urgent needs :

  • Committed givers – monthly donors – cash donations
  • Payroll givers – companies can get involved – you determine the amount you would like to give monthly
  • Goods in kind – resources centre – 2 new computers, reading books (Eng/Afr/Xhosa), educational posters, CAPS for all grades.
  • Volunteer teachers to help with foundation phase reading and writing, primary, secondary school subjects especially languages, mathematics and science.
  • School supplies
  • Arts and crafts supplies
  • Sports equipment – soccer balls, we need to repair our netball hoop
  • Water tanks – 5000l sized – 20
  • Children’s new and gently worn clothing
  • Educational support for children’s further studies
