Signs and Wonders Mission

Signs & Wonders Mission is a non-profitable organization founded in March 2004 and is based in the Northern Areas of Nelson Mandela Bay. The mission is founded on the principles of practical assistance by offering a long-term presence and support structures for the community at large.

As a community-based organization, we offer practical assistance to the community and help in the

Identification and eradication of socially and economically crippling problem areas that hinder community growth. We also aim to inspire and motivate the youth to be more.

Ever since the mission opened its doors in 2004, it has continued to offer support and assistance to a community hard struck by poverty, gangsterism, drugs, unemployment, and hopelessness. When starting out, the mission had its sights set on tackling major issues with the hope of setting off a ripple effect, but in 14 years we have come to realize that perfect change can be set in motion by changing the future starting today. Hence, the mission has set about to allocate the bulk of its resources to ensure the children in the area are granted opportunities as they have the power to change the future of the community.

Projects:

The mission has four focus areas from which all its support programs stem, namely:

  • Children – School Holiday programs – As a means to keep the children in the area safe and out of harm’s way, the mission runs holiday programmes every school holiday to ensure the kids are fed, receive practical life skills lessons, and are equipped to make informed decisions early on.
  • Education Support – Placing students in schools, assisting with textbooks and stationery, etc.
  • Youth – Youth meetings (Called coffee bars) to reach the young people in the area. Platform from which to build relationships and foster life guidance.
  • Adults – Offer counseling for HIV/Aids, marital problems, drug-related issue, rape & trauma victims.
  • Community – Parcel Hand-outs; Clothing support; Printing and admin services to the community.

Signs & Wonders Mission has several different programs and initiatives that each work closely together to ensure the organization achieves its objective of practically assisting the community.

For the erecting of the centre we are currently in need of wood, windows and window frames, doors (both single and double doors), cement, bricks, sand, and any other donations towards the erecting of our Rec-centre

How Covid has impacted us:

Since the inception of Covid-19, the mission remained active in service by means of handing out food parcels to those who needed it the most. As a mission we were not always able to run our holiday programs as the lockdown restriction did not permit us, we continued to reach out to the children as best as we could. Covid managed to hit us as an organization the hardest last year 1 December 2020, when it claimed the life of the mother of our organization, the co-founder, Marilyn Davids.

Our Annual Christmas party last year was a very emotional one (See the YouTube video of the event https://youtu.be/-qN3btq3dTQ). We are currently erecting a Multipurpose Recreational Centre in her honour.

As a Mission, we remain optimistic and hopeful, and we look forward to all the opportunities and challenges that 2021 and the future has in store for us.

“Let us not become weary in doing good for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up”. (Gal. 6v 9).
