About the SA NATIONAL YOUTH ORCHESTRA FOUNDATION
Our green-and-gold National Youth Orchestra was founded in 1964. In its sparkling history it has hosted annual orchestra courses, concerts, international and national tours and workshops for young musicians, and has become one of South Africa’s most successful music institutions.
Our training pathway has been created to nurture the musical development of South Africa’s finest young musicians, from emerging gifted school-age students to those on the verge of a professional career. Along the way our concerts bring delight to thousands. Our alumni are placed in some of the best orchestras across the world, and they make up 71% of the South Africans in our local professional orchestras. We have performed with a diverse range of local and global artists and personalities including Archbishop Tutu, Sir James Galway, Judith Sephuma, Jimmy Nevis, Barbara Hendricks and Sir Roger Norrington.
FUNDRAISING CONCERTS FOR THE BURSARY FUND
The NATIONAL YOUTH ORCHESTRA does three concerts annually as our major fundraising events for the year. As we have members in our orchestra from diverse backgrounds, many can’t afford to attend our orchestra courses unless they have full bursaries (travel, tuition, accommodation, catering etc.) Thus it is important for us to raise funds to make the dreams of our young musicians, regardless of geography or financial barriers, a reality. All proceeds from our concerts go towards the bursary fund, and we do our best to make sure that graduates from our programmes that want to pursue a music career enter the job market, or further their studies at tertiary institutions.
PORT ELIZABETH CONCERT on 9 JULY
We will be performing in Port Elizabeth on Sunday 9 July for our Sunday Funday Concert at the Savoy Theatre and we would very much appreciate your help to publicise the fundraising event.
We can give Algoa FM branding opportunities etc. at the concert and on our online platforms.
An investment in world-class education for our best young musicians: your sponsorship supports arts development, education and meaningful social cohesion in the country. It’s being associated with some of the best young South Africans in our green and gold National Team.
