The Rotary Tree of Joy has been going for around 20 years in PE. Rotary works with around 40 Charities from around Nelson Mandela Bay who submit their beneficiaries, and provide a platform for the public to help those in need over the festive season – this year we aim to find 2200 gifts!
Due to Covid, we have had to think a little more laterally about how we engage this year and provide other methods of supporting the tree other than the physical tree which is still going ahead in the Edgars court at Greenacres. The Tree of Joy will be running until December 18th to allow time for us to organise the distribution of all the gifts. We have also started an online donation platform www.treeofjoype.co.za and Zapper.
You can also find us on Facebook.
The Tree of Joy supports people from 3 months to 96 years old – poor, orphaned, handicapped, ill as well as those in places of safety.
A list of our needs:
We rely heavily on public support for gifts or donations in kind or cash. This year we will be at Greenacres outside Edgars where members of the public are encouraged to visit the tree where they can either
Select a card and buy a gift for that person.
Select a card and give a cash donation and we will buy a gift
Or give a donation which we will use towards buying gifts
One year one of the recipients said that in his 78 years, this is the very first time he has ever received a gift. This is very humbling when you consider how fortunate many of us are. The gift requests are also very humbling – most ask for items that we take for granted and use every single day.
