Having the personal experience of having twins born three months too early, the loss of a twin, and having to cope with a tiny person, merely 980g, in Neo-Natal ICU (NICU) for months evoked a compassion that I could not ignore. In 2019 I founded the not-for-profit company Projects4Preemies to support other families with premature babies.
What is it that we do :
The mission of Projects4Preemies is ‘to inspire, encourage and support families affected by a preterm birth with the aim to make a difference in the life of those fighting for a premature baby.’ The objectives are three-tiered and focus on awareness, education, and providing support. Although we are heavily dependent on sponsorships, funds, and donations we have distributed over 350 care parcels to families with premature babies in NICUs, raised awareness through various mediums including magazines, newspapers, and radio stations. We have also amongst others organized breast milk donations and supported a few mothers with grocery vouchers and premature baby-related therapy.
Two current projects:
As we are growing as a non-profit we are asking organizations, individuals, influencers, friends, and family to join us to make a difference in these families and infants’ lives.
How to help :
Funding is extremely limited and donations are always helpful. Financial, or items for our care parcels. Financial resources are used to pay for therapy services to premature families or to cover other costs that these families incur. Offer services that we can tap into such as occupational therapy, or courier services.
Support our golf day by entering for the four-ball, sponsor a hole, or price, or even something to auction at our planned online auction.
We are on social media with a Facebook page as well as Instagram under the handle Projects4Preemies and our website https://www/projects4preemies.co.za/ .
Our journey of having a premature baby is not ours to keep and our heart's desire is that Projects4Preemies will continue to gain momentum to deliver against our objectives.
