POPUP (People Upliftment Programme) was established at the end of 1999 in Pretoria, with a holistic approach to the upliftment of underprivileged communities. Since 2005 POPUP Tshwane has operated as a fully-fledged skills training and development centre to ensure independence, restoration and true upliftment of individuals through market-related, cost-effective training. POPUP’s main centre is situated in Salvokop, Pretoria and expanded to a second centre in Soshanguve in 2012. We started our third centre in Nelson Mandela Bay (Port Elizabeth) early in 2017.
POPUP provides services to any person living in Port Elizabeth and surrounding areas, regardless of race, culture, gender or religion.
What differentiates the POPUP skills training and development centre from others is that POPUP aims to ensure the fulfilment of the individual’s needs.
As an organisation, POPUP is in a position where we are giving hope to thousands of people as a result of our successful skills programmes. People are given opportunities to obtain skills which will enable them to find employment and rise from the terrible conditions caused by poverty and other circumstances such as crime and addiction.
POPUP’s vision is to transform lives and uplift individuals to impact their world. We firmly believe that transformation takes place from a holistic point of view, impacting the heart, hand and mind of the individual in such a way as to transform them from the inside out, resulting in a changed individual who can positively impact their immediate surroundings; their households, extended families, communities and the country at large.
POPUP requires that potential learners should be between 18 and 45 years of age, unemployed, with no access to tertiary education. These individuals should be able to read, write and speak English, which is the primary language of tuition.
The vast majority of POPUP’s learners connect with POPUP through word of mouth and arrive at POPUP searching for a better life and a future. Our aim is that after completing their journey with POPUP, they return to their communities as restored individuals, equipped to face life and its challenges, with renewed hope and self-esteem.

POPUP has partnered with businesses around Port Elizabeth in giving our learners the opportunity to gain practical training/experience in the workplace. Your company can get involved in furthering the practical skills of our POPUP learners. Essentially the learner would work within your workplace environment at no cost to your organization besides the workspace and equipment required to complete day to day tasks, while they gain useful work experience.
