Masimanyane Women's Rights International

Masimanyane Women's Rights International is based in East London.

Masimanyane's VISION :

We see a society free of gender-based violence where women and children enjoy their full human rights.

To eradicate gender-based violence in order to achieve a healthy, safe, secure, equal, responsible and supportive society for all women and girls.

 Our Objectives:

To decrease the number of gender-based crimes committed against women and children including the trafficking of women and girls.

To ensure that women and children who experience gender-based violence, and those who are infected and affected by HIV/Aids, receive appropriate support services.

To increase levels of knowledge and understanding of the dynamics of gender-based violence, the gendered aspects of the HIV/Aids pandemic, women's and girls' sexual and reproductive health, as well as women's human rights.

To increase the realization of gender equality through the promulgation and implementation of relevant laws and related policies.

To ensure accountability at all levels of government and other political institutions.

THESE ARE SOME OF THE ISSUES WE HAVE BEEN WORKING ON AS DISCUSSED AT A SUMMIT HELD IN 2022:

A DNA lab in Gqeberha to address the backlog of rape cases and improve the performance of the criminal justice system.

The statistics of the crimes committed against women and children still paint a horrific picture and prove that there is still so much work that needs to be done. The premier committed to taking up the recommendations given by delegates at a 2022 summit to strengthen provincial responses to GBVF.

The issue of bail and parole for murderers and rapists came up at this summit and it was suggested that they must not be eligible for them. This is to curb secondary victimization for the victims and survivors.

The efforts and energy the state used to fight the first pandemic (COVID-19), must be used in the fight against the second pandemic, GBVF as it was declared by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

There is a lack of integration and coordination in the response mechanism to GBVF.

The functioning and management of police stations need to be closely monitored.
