Our province has contributed significantly to South Africa’s successful overthrow of colonial and apartheid rule. Our rich history – as the bedrock of the resistance movement and a place where the 100-year-old African National Congress has its strongest base – offers a unique region for a development reawakening. Led by a desire to embody the values and many accomplishments of the past, Eastern Cape communities are striving to address significant challenges in key areas such as health and education.
Masibumbane Development Organization (MDO) was established to support these community efforts to improve their collective well-being.
MDO is a fully registered non–profit and public benefit organisation that was established in 2010 and is based in East London, Eastern Cape. Our mission is to empower underserved and disadvantaged communities to realize their fundamental human rights in a democratic South Africa. We work in partnership with others to facilitate and involve communities in mobilizing resources and designing programmes that address local health, education and social development needs; our work is grounded in a commitment to self-advocacy and social justice.
Our projects include Early Child Development, Open Books Open Mind, Check and Connect, Pre-FET Bursary Trust and FET Phase BUMB'INGOMSO.
Our Vision
We strive towards a society seen through a child’s eyes, where communities are empowered, prosperous, healthy, informed, and critically thoughtful and are growing with vitality and sustainability.
