One of our biggest projects currently is the #GBVR – the Great Big Virtual Race! This run is in honor of all our brave warriors living with Special Needs, we challenge each and every one of you to lace up, gear up, and hit the road with us. RUN, WALK, cycle #justkeepmoving. #autismawareness #dyslexiaawareness #adhdawareness
It all started when Eastern Cape autism warrior and parent Liz Baincame up with the idea of running 1000km in 4 months to raise awareness and funds for the Elsen Academy here in Central, Gqeberha, which like other independent schools over Covid-19 took a massive knock as some parents were left without work and were unable to pay fees.
Liz and her friend, Sandy Rubin, will both be running the full 1000km on their own. However, the Elsen Academy decided to extend this challenge to other schools across South Africa that take care of children with neuro-diversities and launched The Great Big Virtual Race South Africa on World Autism Day on 2 April.
The virtual race started on 1 May and will end on 31 August.
