CHOC Childhood Cancer SA

CHOC is a non-profit organisation made up of caring, committed and passionate people who stand up for and support the well-being of children and teenagers diagnosed with cancer or life-threatening blood disorders and their families. CHOC aims to save lives through early detection and making the journey of those who are affected by childhood cancer, less burdensome through the comprehensive support programmes we offer.

Below is one of our many brave little fighters!

Our Current Projects Include :

Awareness of Childhood Cancer – educating communities on the Early Warning Signs of Childhood Cancer.

We are also the proud beneficiaries of this year's Algoa FM Big Walk For Cancer, now in its 23rd year, it is the biggest charity participation event in the Eastern Cape. This year, the event continues as a virtual walk in support of those affected by Cancer. Anyone from anywhere in South Africa or the world can join in on the fun. Walk, run or stroll while observing social distancing with friends and family wherever you like on Saturday, 30 October.

n

Other fundraising projects include :

Food parcels – assisting families with food parcels once they return home after their child’s treatment in hospital

Covid-19 has impacted enormously on many of our programmes and Services.

Our Volunteer programme has not been able to be carried out effectively as there has been no access to the patients, both at the ward and at the CHOC Houses

The Awareness programme has been drastically reduced with limited access to communities and schools, this has directly resulted in late referral and diagnosis of many patients

The CHOC Transport assistance has increased dramatically

Practical support like food parcels, care bags and bereavement support needs have increased

Events and Fundraising opportunities have been affected with very limited opportunities available for the organisation to raise funds through this platform.
