Bread of Life's objective is to provide holistic care to indigent families in Gqerberha Township and other communities focusing on justice, service, economic empowerment and education.
Our Current Projects Include :
Bread of Life Mentoring - we offer mentoring to those on the fringes of society: the unemployed, sick and old, by coming alongside them and encouraging them to attend skills development, offering advocacy, limited financial support, food and clothing.
Bread of Life: John Masiza Reading Project
Every week 36 learners from John Masiza Primary School are brought to Walmer Methodist Church where volunteers teach them the English alphabet, and sight words and instil the love of reading.
Our needs:
Our reading project urgently needs a bus to transport 36 children from the primary school In Walmer to the church promises in Walmer, every Thursday afternoon between 1 pm and 3 pm!
We need money for our Economic Empowerment Fund to pay stipends to unemployed people who provide a service the local Walmer community.
We need funding to assist those wanting to attend skills development to secure a job! They simply cannot afford it.
We need funds to buy food for food parcels we share alongside our mentoring programm. We provide 150 food parcels twice monthly @ R150 per food parcel.
We need sanitary towels which we give alongwith our food parcels.
We need items for our swop shop like small packets of washing powder, oil, sugar, Instant maize meal.
We need crayons, paint and clay for our homework club.
Many of our Bread of Life Participants (153 on our list) are in need of physical items like fridges and stoves to stock for their small businesses. Washing machines would be welcome as many wash by hand - one granny's hands are finished and she asks every week. Beds, roof sheeting.
Pre-loved clothing as we have an As Good As New sale once a month at the church premises - all proceeds going to our outreach projects.
We are always looking for volunteers to assist with our many outreach projects .
