Bethel College Butterworth

Bethel College High School is a boarding school and day school from grades 0-12.

Bethel also offers a Wellness centre that rehabilitates students who are suffering from addiction.

Where other schools within the Butterworth region have expelled students because of addiction, the community knows they can send the students to Bethel to rehabilitate and then get a quality education.

The school has dug its own borehole which services the residents and the school as well as their own farm. The farm with skilled hands has produced beautiful veggies that feed the immediate community. They have already established one Borehole. But Butterworth is a drought-prone area, and in the hot Spring and Summer months, the Borehole will not be sufficient for Students, Residents and the Farm.

As a result of COVID-19 and the lockdown the school, whose students come from lower LSM homes, has suffered greatly financially. The teachers have received less than 10% of their salary for months.

Recently their electricity was disconnected because they have a bill due with Eskom for over R100 000. The boarding students need the electricity to study at night and having already suffered from the delays in education due to the Lockdown, the students cant lose any more time.

Eskom had agreed to reconnect the electricity on the 19th September 2020 (Thank you Eskom), but they have given strict instructions that the balance needs to be paid in the coming month.

Bethel was awarded a Tender by the Government to host a 20 day Grade 12 School camp in August which was successful. Unfortunately, the Education Department has still not paid in full and this has set the school back substantially.

Our current projects include: Bethel Wellness Centre – Rehabilitation Centre on Premises for Bethel Students (and new applicants)

Bethel Farm and Water program – The residents on Bethel volunteer to grow a substantial farm and are currently looking to establish a second Borehole.
