At Bay Animal Care we are educating our people on how to treat for their domestic animals. Stray animals within the Metro, including ill-treated animals, dog fights, are a huge concern. I would physically go to a house and give the dog a bath {dip), treating a sick animal, educating the owner in the process. Confiscating and homing animals that are ill-treated or the condition in which a dog live is also part of our daily tasks. Assist with giving dog food, where there is a need.
Bay Animal Care is a lifelong dream of mine, since my retirement from the Nelson Mandela Municipality; I finally had time to pursue my passion. I always had a softspot for animals, especially domestic animals. A few years back I was devastated when my dog was stolen, a loyal friend; Tiger. He was seventeen years old. We take care of these animals, love them and give them a home. A place where they feel safe.
These animals become part of your family; they will always protect you, a bond that's not easily broken. I still remembers in the afternoons when coming home from work, how Tiger would wait by the gate, sensing that I was on my way home, seeing that tale wiggling. Tiger grew up with my kids and looking back now, he taught me a valuable lesson, loyalty! Loyalty between a dog and its owner is something I had the privilege experiencing for myself. It's true what people say; "a dog is a man's best friend".
At Bay Animal Care, we want to restore that trust between domestic animals and mankind. I worked with several animal organizations, after retiring from the municipality. In my experiences I saw the need for more non profitable organizations'; dealing with these abused domestic animals. My aim is to go into the remote areas of our communities, areas where the bigger organizations don't reach.
The work load is too big and resources seem to be a major challenge. I worked with a lot of domestic animals and their owners in the townships and northern areas. Myself and the late Ellen Dunning (Domestic Animal Care) use to go into the bushes along the marine drive, treating and feeding the animals. Believe it or not, there are a lot of domestic animals staying in these bushes. These animals don't have a voice like humans, they cannot say: "I am hungry", worse, some owners are un- educated and un- informed when caring for these poor animals. The wellbeing of these animals is the core objective of Bay Animal Care. With the help of the business fraternity in the bay and within our communities the imbalances and the relationship between our domestic animals and their owners can be restored.
Top 3 projects:
Treatment; home neglected and abuse dogs after treating them; educating our people and the implementation of a feeding scheme (donating dog food to the needy). We started in the Algoa Park area, expended to the Northern Areas including Mission vale up to Joe Slovo. Also expending to the Western suburbs in terms of dipping (bathing) the animals. I am busy seven days a week, my cell wouldn't stop ringing. After church on a Sunday, I have people coming to my house.
A success story:
Door to door Washing (Dipping) project implemented) The bathing (dipping) project became such a huge success that it has become part of our daily routine. At Bay Animal Care we are going the extra mile in executing our duties. Most of the people doesn't have transport to bring the dog for a wash, fleas' and ticks are becoming a huge problem in the remote areas of our city.
List of needs:-
I am in desperate need of a bakkie; currently I am utilizing my son's private vehicle. Any donations in the form either in dog food, cash or a channel or blackest etc.
