Ayakha Foundation

Ayakha Foundation was founded by Port Elizabeth’s Bongani Grootboom.

Coming from one of the poorest and most dangerous areas in which to live, particularly for women and children, Grootboom started this initiative to help those in need.

Our foundation provides sanitary pads, toiletries and small food parcels to those less fortunate as well as to victims of gender-based violence, sexual assault, rape and domestic violence.

Our Mission :

The purpose of this initiative is help out where we can and assist the government in creating a better and brighter future for South African women and children.

Our Vision :

To see a country where women know their worth and are confident enough to express themselves in any environment. We also promote gender equality.

 What Is Our Purpose :

The Ayakha Initiative is determined to assist young  South African women in high schools and primary schools. Young girls in rural areas live below the bread line – for them, sanitary pads are a luxury. Young girls without this basic need being met, miss school and experience a loss of self-confidence and self-esteem while continued absence from school leads to poor educational outcomes with some even dropping out of school. This in turn will hinder their ability to find future employment. Ayakha Foundation wants to create a solid foundation for these girls.

What We Are Doing :

We researched underprivileged schools in the rural community and found that 6 out of 8 primary schools have no support of any kind to assist with socioeconomic issues.

We approached local primary schools such as

*Funimfundo Primary School

*Emzihlophe Primary School

*Khanyisa School For The Blind

*Gradrute Shope Primary School.

We have also worked with other Organizations such as :

* Eastern Province Child & Youth Care Center

*Vukuzakhe Non-Profit Organization

* Grab & Go Foundation

*Ekuphumleni Old Aged Home

We believe if we could work together we could decrease the number of poverty-stricken individuals in our communities.

Our Plans Going Forward :

We want to consistently provide these resources on a month-to-month basis. Once we can safely secure these goods, we want to approach other schools (5 primary schools and 5 high schools) and provide the same goods. We also want to contribute towards school uniforms and sports equipment. We believe, that any school can excel in sports and academically if there is a sufficient supply of resources. You can be a part of this by supporting our organization with a donation/funding. We are happy to acknowledge your donation on our social media platforms (unless you prefer otherwise).
