What does this NPO DO?
At the tender age of just 12 years , after doing some research in Walmer Township , Nadia Mila discovered that many children were struggling in primary school. One of the reasons behind this was because the play schools in the township were just that, children would ONLY play and sleep. There was no stimulation whatsoever to prepare them for the day when they would go to ?proper? school. Thus it was the idea for the Little Stuart Play School was born! Four years down the line this is now a fully functioning registered NGO.
Her playschool offers basic education and the children are even taken on Educational outings. There is also a learner development program (aftercare) to the play school to help the children who are already in primary school with their homework and the subjects with which they are struggling. Many of the children who attend the program have parents who don?t understand the current syllabus. The Play school also has a women?s workshop to which Nadia invites social workers to speak to young girls about teenage pregnancy, aids and substance abuse. But that is not all! At Little Stuart, they also teach learners about the environment and there is a garden project as well as a recycling project. What an amazing young lady!
Nadia was awarded the first Herald GM youth citizen of the year award in 2015. She is currently studying business administration at Varsity College.
