African Angels Trust

African Angels is a small, dynamic, grassroots NPO working just outside East London in Chintsa East. We are a catalyst for whole community development.

'I want the future of my child to be different, to be better. Better than mine." Parent of a learner at African Angels.

African Angels provides quality education by exceptional teachers for one hundred and fifty-six children who will innovate, and be the hope for our future. We educate children who have limited resources and live in situations that are unimaginable to most of us, yet they are determined to grow into educated, productive, and responsible citizens.

Many of the students who have graduated from African Angels have been accepted into, and attend, some of the most prestigious high schools in the country like the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in Johannesburg. They have qualified for bursaries that allow them to access incredible educational opportunities and break the cycle of poverty they were born into. African Angels are relentless in their quest to see each child reach their full potential and grow into fine South African citizens, able to hope for a better future, because of the education they have received at the school. All of the learners are from vulnerable backgrounds, and many are orphans.

The school receives no Government funding

Two of our most important projects are listed below :

The African Angels Days for Girls Enterprise was born in December 2020, after the COVID19 pandemic decimated employment in the Chintsa East area. African Angels partnered with the international organization, Days for Girls, and now employs 4 local women who make high-quality, washable, sanitary pads. It is estimated 30% of school-going girls in South Africa miss 4 days of school a month because they cannot afford sanitary products. Our enterprise provides girls and women with an environmentally friendly, locally produced, high-quality pad that will last up to 3 years.

Ikwezilomso Creche, Chintsa East. African Angels has partnered with this community-based educare, which has 80 children attending daily between the ages of 1 month and 5 years of age. African Angels provides mentoring and financial support for the lead teacher; resource exchange; and are helping to fundraise so the center can build new classrooms that will comply with the Department of Social Development requirements.
