25:40 Children’s Alliance

25:40 Children’s Alliance is a non-profit organization dedicated to giving at-risk children in South Africa’s Eastern Cape Province a fighting chance to survive the devastating impacts of poverty, disease and violence.

Our Mission

The mission of 25:40 is to channel the attention and resources of those blessed with much toward saving children from the devastating impacts of poverty, disease and violence, and in doing so create one community of people empowered with purpose, healing and hope.

2540's approach to addressing the impact of dire socio-economic issues on many children in the Eastern Cape is twofold:

Our youth leadership programme breaks the cycle of vulnerability by reaching the youth (9-18) through sport coaching and mentorship programmes. Through mentoring the youth, we strive to empower them to become good, responsible parents and citizens, breaking the cycle of socio-economic and emotional problems caused by fatherlessness, parental absenteeism and broken families.

Our OVC (orphaned and vulnerable children) programme helps children trapped in harsh socio-economic conditions. The programme includes the Makokhanya pre-school, five afterschool centres, and home visits conducted in rural areas to identify and assist children in obtaining the necessary documentation to apply for social grants and schools.

 25:40 Project needs

 Orphans and Vulnerable Children:

• Monthly food packs for a family of at least four.
• Emergency clothing packs for babies and children up to 18 years old.

 After school centers and pre-school:

• Transparent plastic files for work pages
• Pencils
• Crayons
• Paint and other painting supplies
• Clay
• Story books: English and Xhosa - grades 1 to 7
• Children's Bibles
• Coding training: ten to twenty laptops
• Financial contributions to cover exposure visits for aftercare groups (R 20 000)

 Therapeutic Services:

• Occupational therapy: Financial contribution to cover this (R 60 000)
• Child psychology: Financial contribution to cover testing and therapy (R 60 000)

 Youth Leadership program:

• Financial contributions to cover training and exposure projects (R 100 000)
• Netball balls
• Soccer balls – number 4 and 5
• Kit or uniforms – for football and netball
• Volleyball balls
• Weights – different sizes

 Vegetable gardens:

• Gardening equipment like shovels, watering cans
• Seedlings
• Water tank and canopy building material to collect rainwater

 Support our kids and teams:

• Sponsor a child at R 1100 per month
