South Africa slightly cut its forecast of maize output for the 2013 season, to 11.5 million tonnes from a previous estimate of 11.75 million tonnes, citing prolonged dry conditions in the main grain growing areas.
Government's Crop Estimates Committee said in a statement on Thursday that the maize crop would consist of an estimated 6.1 million tonnes of white maize, and 5.4 million tonnes of yellow.
The CEC also said South African farmers intended to plant 516,600 hectares of wheat this year, from 511,200 hectares in 2012.
