An Eastern Cape based citrus exporting company scooped two major awards at the National Female Entrepreneur of the Year Awards held in Mafikeng in August.
Luthando Farm in Kirkwood took top honours in the Best Producer Export category, before taking home the overall winner prize beating nominees from other provinces.
Prior to the national contest, Luthando won the best producer export category in the provincial chapter of the awards a week ago.
Funded by the government as part of land reform programmes, the company is majority owned by female beneficiaries of the government's Land Redistribution for Agricultural Development Programme.
Eastern Cape Rural Development and Agrarian Reform MEC, Mlibo Qoboshiyane congratulated Luthando Farm on its continuous success.
He added that Luthando proved that women in the sector played as an important role as their male counterparts.
Luthando exports its produce to Europe, China, Middle East, amongst other markets with some sold on the local market.
